Summer in the City Internship Program Application

    The Summer in the City program is a partnership between the City of Watsonville and the Pajaro Valley Unified School District to provide incoming high school seniors and juniors an opportunity to gain career ready skills, foster interest in leadership and civic matters, and create a voice for youth to address real city issues. We will select 7 students from each local high school for a total of 21 students to participate in the program. Students must be enrolled at Watsonville High School, Aptos High School or Pajaro Valley High School to participate. The program will run from July 9, 2018 – July 27, 2018. • Students will attend class at City Hall, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (classroom instruction) and 1-4 p.m. (department internship) • Students will receive a $500 stipend at program completion • Students will earn 2.5 elective credits at program completion • Lunch will be provided • Transportation to field trips will be provided Applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified via email by May 25, 2018.   3. Eligibility Criteria

    Successful candidates must be a high school senior or junior and possess a minimum GPA of 2.0 and have good attendance. He or she must possess good character with a desire to learn more about leadership and civic matters. The candidate must be ready to commit to a 3-week paid internship program within a City department during the summer recess.

  4. Application Process

    Applicant must submit a fully completed application and ALL requested information by mail, email, online or in person. The following must be enclosed with the application: • Two recommendation letters (teacher, guidance counselor, school administrator, or faith based leader); a one-page essay; copy of school issued identification card. Enrollment at the three local high schools listed above will be verified. Applications and additional requested information must be post-marked, emailed, submitted online or dropped off in person by Friday, May 11, 2018 before 5:00 p.m.

I understand that I am committing to a 3 week paid internship program which will run from June 11, 2018 – June 29, 2018.
