Customer Service! The City of Watsonville is encouraging residents to report abandoned shopping carts by calling Customer Service at 831-768-3133. Carts are mobile and can roll into streets and wetlands, becoming a hazard to our community.

Abandoned Shopping Carts: Who Ya Gonna Call?? Customer Service

Our residents appreciate a clean and safe community. Efforts to reduce abandoned shopping carts in our streets, alleys, blocking sidewalks, and dumped in local wetlands require that we all join together. Help our City staff keep Watsonville free from large, unsightly, and unsafe debris by reporting abandoned shopping carts in your neighborhood and beyond by calling the number on the cart (if visible) and alternatively, the City's Customer Service at 831-768-3133. Locations with abandoned shopping carts become the target for increased illegal dumping, harming our wildlife and water quality.

How to Report

All retail businesses shopping carts located within City limits should be labeled with a retrieval phone number. You can take action by calling the number directly on the shopping cart and providing the street name and any other location specifics (landmarks, nearby structures like bridges or wetlands, etc.) to ensure pick-up within 24 hours. You may also e-mail the City’s Customer Service with the subject "abandoned shopping cart," again providing the location, the store name on the cart if visible, and a photo if it is convenient for you to snap a picture on your phone. We understand that this is a complex issue, and we are listening to our residents' concerns about removing unsafe and unsightly debris and are calling on you to keep us informed. Your safety is most important, so please do not enter bodies of water with dumped carts or cross busy streets to retrieve carts.
