The City Council and community leaders are gearing up to commemorate an important City milestone – the sesquicentennial celebration.
On March 30, 1868, the California State Legislature approved a request to incorporate RanchoBolsa del Pajaro into the Town of Watsonville. Now, nearly 150 years after its incorporation, City Council and community leaders are gearing up to commemorate an important City milestone – the sesquicentennial celebration. The group is planning an ambitious and spirited celebration to commemorate 150 years of the City’s incorporation. The sesquicentennial celebration will be an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate all the history and cultures that have created the fabric of our community. The City is compiling a master calendar of activities that take place throughout the year, and hopes to work with community stakeholders to incorporate a historical theme to many of these events. Various subcommittees are working on preparing a series of celebratory events and special projects such as a downtown gateway sign, videos to document the rich history of our town, a time capsule that will be kept in the downtown, as well as an application that documents historical buildings, places and special features of our City.
The members of the City of Watsonville 150th anniversary celebration hope that all members of the community attend and participate in the activities that will be taking place in 2018. Those interested in contributing to the City of Watsonville 150th celebration can contact Tamara Vides at tamara.vides@cityof watsonville.org. Information about all upcoming events will be available on the Sesquicentennial website at www.watsonville150.org (website currently under construction).
