[ARCHIVED] Fourth of July safety tips

The Watsonville Fire Department is sharing several safety tips for this upcoming Fourth of July.

  • Only use State Fire Marshal-approved fireworks 
  • Never use near dry grass or flammable materials
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Have a bucket of water and a hose handy 
  • Under no circumstances should children be allowed to handle any type of fireworks 

The fire department will also be deploying units to help Watsonville police officers with fireworks enforcement.

Those who are caught igniting or in possession of illegal fireworks will be fined $1,000 per violation. Tenants or property owners will also be cited if there is evidence that illegal fireworks were at the property, were sold at the property, or were set off at the property.

Illegal fireworks can be reported through the Watsonville Police mobile app or by calling 831-471-1151.

El Departamento de Bomberos de Watsonville está compartiendo varios consejos de seguridad para las celebraciones del cuatro de julio.

  • Sólo use fuegos artificiales aprobados por el Jefe de Bomberos del Estado de California 
  • Nunca use cohetes cerca de pasto ceco o materials inflamables 
  • Nunca apunte ni arroje fuegos artificiales a otra persona 
  • Tengan un blade de agua y una manguera a mano 
  • Bajo ninguna circunstancia see debe permitir que los niños manipulen ningún tipo de fuegos artificiales 

La agencia también estará desplegando unidades para ayudar a oficiales de Watsonville con sus esfuerzos contra fuegos artificiales ilegales.

Aquellos encendiendo o en posesión de fuegos artificiales ilegales enfrentarán una multa de hasta $1.000 por infracción. Inquilinos o propietarios también serán multados si hay evidencia de que hubo fuegos artificiales ilegales en la propiedad, se vendieron en la propiedad, o se encendieron en la propiedad.
