[ARCHIVED] Watsonville Police enforcement operations against illegal fireworks

4thofJuly_2022-04

With the Fourth of July celebrations quickly approaching, the Watsonville Police  Department is already preparing its enforcement operations against illegal fireworks.

“We will have additional teams of officers patrolling the area for illegal fireworks,” explained Watsonville Police Sergeant Juan Trujillo.

As in past years, the department will have zero tolerance for illegal fireworks. Anyone caught igniting or in possession of illegal fireworks will be fined $1,000 per violation. Tenants or property owners will also be cited if there is evidence that illegal fireworks were at the property, were sold at the property, or were set off at the property.

“My recommendation for people reporting the use of illegal fireworks is to provide as much detail as they can,” said Trujillo. “Address, description of the person or a vehicle that the may be associated with; this will help identify and pinpoint the responsible.”

Only Safe & Sane fireworks, bearing the State Fire Marshal seal will be allowed in Watsonville. Illegal fireworks can be reported through the Watsonville Police mobile app or by calling 831-471-1151.
