The Municipal Airport will open its doors on July 4th from 5:00 pm until 9:30pm. for the "Fire in the Sky" Open House. This Open House event is an important part of the Airport’s efforts to reach out to the community and highlight the importance of this community asset to our region.
The Open House will feature a festival-like open seating atmosphere and will include formation flyovers, a variety of food trucks, introductory flights, and, given the later start, an early evening outdoor animated motion picture (Angry Birds) for the kids. To close the evening and in line with the celebration of the 4th of July, we will host a professional firework show.
This year law enforcement aviation assets from the California Highway Patrol and Santa Cruz County Sheriff will display their aircraft. Additionally, air ambulance Calstar and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will bring aircraft to the field. The Watsonville Municipal Airport tenants have also been invited to display personal, flying club, trainers and corporate aircraft. Admission is free. Vehicles may park on the crosswind runway for $10.00.
The event will also feature a VIP area inside of the United Flight Services Hangar. The VIP area is sponsored by several community businesses who are supporting this community event.
