2019 Earth Day/Day of the Child
Sunday, April 28
Watsonville City Plaza
"This year Watsonville's Earth Day will bring awareness to the "Plastic-Free Campaign" that the City is promoting. This is a worldwide movement to create consciousness about plastic pollution on our planet. Join us to learn more!"
Families are invited to the 17th annual festival with over 70 spectacular booths of recreation, crafts and learning. Our motto this year is #OurPlanetOurChildren #NuestroPlanetaNuestrosHijos as Earth Day is all about protecting our environment for the future and Day of the Child is a Latin American tradition honoring youth. The festival is FREE aside from food booths. Special highlights this year include an interactive rhythm circle with Survivor’s Healing Center at 3 pm, the gigantic mobile trash museum, local cheer and dance teams, jump houses, a climbing wall and over 70 booths of free games and crafts. At least a third of the activities are developed and guided by our local middle and high school students. They are the mentors for the children and gain life and career skills as they share.
Sponsors want to make a difference for Watsonville and make it possible for more community organizations to participate, provide recreation activities, and offer special incentives like reusable bags. Monterey Bay Community Power is our lead “Global Sustainer” sponsor that provides green power to all of us. Driscoll's is giving back to Watsonville as the "Watsonville Planeteer" festival sponsor. The Survivor’s Healing Center has partnered with the festival for several years as the super “Wetlands Superhero” sponsor and First Five, Pajaro Valley Printing and the Register Pajaronian are our amazing "Clean Community" level of supporters. Of course, 9 Departments with the City of Watsonville join in with Public Works and Parks and Community Services taking lead as the organizing sponsors. No vending is allowed aside from 3 pre-approved food vendors in order to reduce junk that ends up in the landfill and to create equity.Event Contact:
