Pinto Lake City Park is located at 451 Green Valley Road. The park consists of 78 acres, 70 of which are water and 8 are land.
The city’s lakeside park offers boating, fishing, a playground and picnic area as well as overnight RV camping facilities. Bring your own boat, canoe, kayak or inflatable watercraft out to the lake, but be prepared to go through a boat inspection and pay a small launch fee. You also can rent small boats in the summer. There is a boat dock as well as platforms for fishing and birdwatching. On shore, play volleyball, horseshoes or softball. There are barbecue facilities and one picnic pavilion.
The park is home to the Watsonville American Little League. It also hosts the Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby held in May. It’s free for kids 12 & Under with a parent. The Kids Fishing Derby is sponsored by the City of Watsonville, Pajaro Valley Rod & Gun Club and the Pajaro Valley Host Lions. Pinto Lake is also one of the designated sites for the Annual Monterey Bay Birding Festival held in September.
Friends of Pinto Lake is an organization of concerned community members who want to restore the environmental health of this 8,000 year-old lake, bordered by Watsonville City park and Santa Cruz County Park, for wildlife and human life to enjoy safely. Their mission is to raise awareness and provide advocacy regarding issues and actions to help improve Pinto Lake’s watershed, to work for the betterment of the lake’s natural, sustainable environment for native plants and wildlife, and to support recreational opportunities for generations to come.
