Summer Youth Job Training Program

At the August 26 City Council meeting, eight youth were recognized for participating in an eight-week Summer Youth Job Training Program. The high school students were assigned as recreation leaders in the Parks and Community Services Department and they worked at several recreation centers and for Neighborhood Services. The youth completed the training required of all new recreation leaders. This training consisted of the following topics: CPR, Customer Service, Safe Work Practices, Sun Safety, Incident Reporting, Risk Management, Workplace Violence, Sexual Harassment and Blood Bourne Pathogens. Following the training, the youth worked at summer drop-in programs, the Contigo program, the Summer Lunch Program, Camp W.O.W., the Strawberry Festival, the Post Incident Team and Family Movie Nights. This program provided youth with paid work experience and the PCS Department with much needed staff during the summer.
