Watsonville Public Library urges families to bring their appetites to the library for

Watsonville Public Library launches its Reading Is So Delicious! Summer Reading Program on Monday, June 10, 2013. Over the next two months, the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults that encourage and support a love of reading. Participants also can win prizes for achieving their reading goals and attending programs.

Themed activities include:  Cute Cute Cupcakes where you will learn the basic techniques for decorating cupcakes;  Hat Making  - make your own fruit and vegetable hat;  and a special guest appearance by beloved entertainer  Jose Luis Orozco.  The Library will be hosting a Teen movie night nearly every Wednesday as well as a series of Thursday afternoon events for teens including cake decorating and smoothie parties.

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer helps prevent summer reading loss.

“Studies also indicate students who read recreationally out-performed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose the materials based on their own interests,” Susan Nilsson, Children’s Librarian added. “Our libraries are committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all our families.”

Registration continues throughout the summer, to learn more about the summer adventure at the library please call (831)768-3400 or view our Children’s Summer Reading Program Calendar of Events and Teen Summer Reading Program of Events.
