Watsonville Police Dept receives a Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Grant

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has awarded a $47,264 grant to the Watsonville Police Department for a period of one year.  The funds will be used for the reduction of alcohol-related issues in the City.  The Watsonville Police Department in partnership with ABC will use strategic approaches to eliminate the crime and public nuisance problems associated with alcoholic beverage outlets.

Program Goals and Objectives

–          Target those licensed outlets that cause alcohol-related crimes

–          Reduce alcohol related disorder issues and increase qualify of life

–          Maintain law enforcement training program focused on alcohol related issues


–          Target problematic ABC licensed establishments

–          Provide Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) trainings

–          Conduct minor decoy and shoulder tap operations

–          Provide trainings on alcohol related issues

–          Coordinate “Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crimes and Tendencies” (IMPACT) operations

The Watsonville Police Department will encourage community participation in the IMPACT and LEAD trainings which are preventative and educational programs that are essential for the success of the grant.  The IMPACT training will teach licensees how they can help reduce alcohol-related crime while the LEAD training will teach retail licensees, their employees, and applicants about alcohol responsibility and the law.
