Watsonville Historical Newspaper Archive

The Watsonville Public Library is excited to announce that we’re helping to preserve Watsonville’s history through the digitization of over 100 years of local newspaper. Researchers, students and community members are now able to freely access Watsonville newspapers from 1864-2012 over the Internet. The Pajaronian, Evening Pajaronian, Watsonville Morning Sun, and The Watsonville Register Pajaronian were all digitized as part of this project.

“The library has always been an archive for loRPcal history, in recent years we’ve struggled to preserve historical newspapers on microfilm.  This project has been an opportunity for us to continue preserving our community’s historical record in a new and more accessible way.” said Library Director Carol Heitzig.

The library has contracted with BMI to host the newspapers on their DigitalReel platform.  DigitalReel provides users with the capability of searching for newspaper articles online by date or by keyword.

DigitalSliderThe digitized newspapers are available for research and viewing on our
Watsonville Historical Newspaper Archive database.

This database is a work in progress, indexing and digitization are still occurring. You can watch our how to search video or call the library at 768-3404 if you have any problems using this database.
