Watsonville Environmental Science Workshop (WESW)

kids1When you visit the workshop, you’ll see it’s buzzing with the sound of chatter, giggles, music and the hum of power tools and even a sewing machine. Mobiles dangle from the ceilings while doll houses, handmade board games and projects are scattered around the room, which closely resembles a mad scientist’s workshop.

To come here all you need is your imagination! Kids can learn that science and technical fields are fun and interesting thereby getting a view of possible future careers in science or education.  They can learn conservation; reuse of materials, creative adaptation, and gain an appreciation for how materials can be reused in creative and exciting ways. Most of all Kids can build confidence as a result of competence they gain when completing their project(s).

The WESW gives parents the opportunity to work together with their kids on projects necessary for home or school that would otherwise be impossible. A “Girls’ Day” is offered as part of the program.

The first and original Science Workshop is located at Marinovich Community Center, 120 Second St.  Two additional permanent sites and 5 satellite sites have been added around the City of Watsonville. The program receives funding from grants and programs offered at Pajaro Valley Unified School District.
