Main Street Revitalization – Public Art: For Us, About Us, By Us

The Main Street Revitalization Project is happening in stages and the City has contracted with local artist Kathleen Crocetti to create mosaics for the new sidewalks.

Kathleen believes that artwork should not be imposed on a community but rather made for and with the community.

SHARING & BIG IDEAS MEETING
Tuesday, February 28th
5:30-7:00 p.m.
Meeting Room at the Watsonville Library
275 Main St., Suite 100

For this first meeting, we encourage you to bring photos, stories or actual objects that are culturally significant to you and your family. There have been at least 13 waves of immigrants migrating to Watsonville beginning in the 1770’s with the Spanish Missionaries. Kathleen is hoping to represent all the nationalities that have settled here in Watsonville. Your contributions will help Kathleen make sketches for the final mosaics.

VOTING MEETING
Thursday, March 9th
5:30-7:00 p.m.
Meeting Room at the Watsonville Library
275 Main St., Suite 100

You will get the opportunity to vote on and make suggestions on the images presented. Later in the spring, all interested community members will be invited to Kathleen’s studio to assist in the making of the mosaics.

If you have questions, you can contact Public Works & Utilities Department at 768-3100.
