Development of the Rail Trail Underway


Plans are underway for development of three separate segments of the Rail Trail, including 1.2 miles in Watsonville.  The overall project is 32 miles long and extends the length of the County from Davenport in the north to Watsonville in the south.  The portion within the City will be built alongside the existing railroad tracks that run from Lee Road to Walker Street.  The trail will be a total of 12 feet wide with an eight foot paved path and two-foot base rock shoulders on each side.  Watsonville has received funds from various sources including the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County.  The other segments in development are being done by the City of Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission.  The Santa Cruz County Friends of the Rail & Trail raised funds for the Watsonville project and the other segments.  See the flyer below for more information or visit their website at
